Are you feeling extra charitable today? Don’t you just love our tax system? So easy, so simple, no forms to fill out and you always feel like you are getting your money’s worth sending it to competent politicians in Washington DC. It is comforting to know that they don’t waste any money and they don’t personally benefit from the well-crafted tax system that has evolved over the years. It is such a fair system, no one pays a larger percentage than anyone else and no one gets refund that does not pay any income tax.
Now for reality; our tax system is so over bloated it is bordering on insanity. Corrupt politicians are using it to enrich themselves at our expense and all the time they are telling us that they are somehow public servants, gag. They say that they are helping the poor and claim a Robin Hood type of heroism but in reality the story of Robin Hood was one of Robin taking tax money from the King AKA a corrupt politician and giving it back to those that paid it in the first place.
Is there a better approach to fund the government and pay our taxes?
Imagine a system where you would not have to keep any of those stupid receipts. How about a system where you did not have to file any complicated tax forms? How many hours are wasted each year filling out cumbersome tax forms to prove that you paid your fair share of tax? Wouldn’t it be great if everyone rich, poor and average all paid at least some tax? Why do some not pay any income tax but they get money by just filing; without paying a dime of income tax? Is that fair?
How would you like to earn as much income as you want without paying any income tax? Can you imagine how much more effort people would put into working if they could keep 100% of whatever they earned? How many more new companies would be started? How many new jobs would be created?
Here is an idea that might work to pay for the federal government; a national sales tax on everything that is purchased. You buy a car you pay tax, you buy a house you pay tax, you buy food you pay tax. After you pay tax on an item like your house you are done. No more double taxation on items.
There would only be ONE national tax or consumption tax. It would be the same percentage for everyone, 5%, 10%, 15% 20%, 30%; whatever it takes to reasonably fund the federal government. That would be fair wouldn’t it? We would finally have full and fair disclosure about the real cost to run the federal government.
Each State should also follow the same pattern establishing a state sales tax. No other state taxes should be allowed. This means that when all is said and done only TWO taxes should be levied on all Americans, one to run the federal government and one to run the state & local government. Each state would be competing against its neighboring states to keep their taxes low. Competition brings prices down and efficiencies up. It is past time for some competition.
No more taxing your personal property either, once you buy something and pay tax on it like your house, you are done paying on that item. After all you never really own your house or anything else if the government can levy taxes on it and can take it away if you don’t pay.
It appears that our whole progressive tax system is designed to punish the productive, reward the lazy and make some corrupt politicians rich in the process. This must END.
